Abstract

3D GIS technique has been attempted in the Proterozoic sedimentary Kaladgi Basin which would contribute significantly for possible real picturesque view of the old marine sedimentary basin and recognize the terrain relief, slope and undulated deformation of the epicontinental sea surface of the Kaladgi Basin. In this study the three dimensional geological model based on logical model by surface-mesh, wire-mesh and TIN in 3D GIS is applied to decipher the old marine terrain surface of the study area of the Kaladgi Basin using large data base involving about 20, 522 point elevations and a few kilometers of line elevation contours. The site is bestowed with good distinguishing marine sedimentary landforms and geotectonical features. The terrain has numerous unique geomorphic features and only a 3D relief model enables the appreciation of such features. For this purpose, information from geological survey, field study of landforms, elevation and geological setting in the appropriate area in the Kaladgi Basin is used. The result and analysis could contribute for comparisons with other such terrains in a regional context.
