Abstract

The present study was carried out in six villages of Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. The all 68 demonstrations on Pigeon pea were carried out in 26 ha. area by the active participation of farmers with the objective to demonstrate the improved technologies of pigeon pea production potential during 2010–11 to 2014–15. The improved technology consisting the use of high yielding and wilt resistant variety, balanced use of fertilizers and use of suitable fungicidal i.e. vitavax 75% WP + trichoderma for seed treatment was used as technical interventions. For the control of pod borer (Helicoverpaarmigera), Indoxacarb 15.8% EC was used in demonstrated plots which is suggested in package and practices for the Nimar region. The yield of Pigeon pea in IP under rainfed conditions ranges from 10.10 to 13.98 q/ha whereas in FP ranges from 8.30 to 11.17 q/ha. The per cent increase in yield with improved practices over farmer practices was recorded in the range of 19.91 to 34.09. The extension gap ranging between 3.36–4.41 q/ha while the technology gap quite higher and ranging between 5.02 to 8.90 q/ha during the period of study. The trend of technology gap reflected the farmer's cooperation, in carrying out such demonstrations with encouraging results in subsequent years. The cost benefit ratio was 5.23 to 6.60 under demonstration, while it was 4.43 to 5.81 under control plots. In spite of increase in yield of pigeon pea, technological gap, extension gap and technology index existed. The improved technology gave higher gross return, net return with higher benefit cost ratio as farmer's practices. By conducting front line demonstration of proven technologies, yield potential from pigeon pea cultivation can be enhanced to a great extent with increase in the income level of the farming community.
