Abstract The study was conducted to identify the socio-personal and academic factors of the postgraduate students affecting their extent of perceived stress. Three colleges of the four State Agricultural Universities of Northern India were selected purposively. A sample of 180 post-graduate students was selected through stratified random sampling technique. A scale was developed to measure the extent of perceived stress. Data were collected through distributed questionnaire technique. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the postgraduate students had medium level of academic performance. Most of the students were under higher extent of perceived stress. Place of accommodation of the students, eating all daily meals a day, order of birth were significantly associated with the extent of perceived stress. The extent of perceived stress was also significantly associated with family factors like family background, family type, parent's education and father's occupation. Positive and significant relationship was observed between family income and stress level of students. Place of accommodation of the students was also significantly associated with the extent of perceived stress. There is need to counsel both students and their parents to manage stress.
