Communication, GBPUA&T, Pantnagar, Uttaranchal Abstract In India, women constitute about half of the population and more than 70 percent of the rural unemployed and 60 percent of the total unemployed. Under the present condition of chronic unemployment and under employment the economic position of the women is in a pitiable state. No nation can afford to ignore the development of women. The participation of women in economic activities is necessary not only from the point of view of human resource but also from the objective of raising the status of women in the society. The Planning Commission, Central and State Govt. recognized that women should be in the mainstream of economic development and subsequently came out with various schemes and programme to develop women entrepreneurs.
