Abstract The one-humped camel is non-native to Bangladesh. A very few camels have been imported from India for production purposes and others are imported for meat purpose. In spite of intensive management on the one-humped camel farm in the country, production and productivity are low. Camels suffer from several production diseases. Imports of camels from India infected with or seropositive to Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS-COV) pose a risk to human health. Climate, physical and social environments are inimical to camel production. Development efforts should concentrate on the native and adapted species already in the country in order to improve the livelihoods and welfare of the Bangladeshi people.
