Abstract The experimental was conducted at Idayankulam village in Tirunelveli District of Tamilnadu, India during 2013–2014 to evaluate the effect of different organic manures and their combinations on various physio-chemical, chemical and physical properties of the soil and its effect on groundnut crop. The treatments of this study were farm yard manure (FYM), tank silt (TS) and green manure (GM). The above manures were applied and after 30 days the soil samples were collected in each sample and analyzed. Groundnut crop was grown and soil samples were again analyzed, after the harvest of the crop. The yield was high with the combinations of F+TS in equal combinations @ 12.5 t ha−1 and the yield was found as 4300 kg ha−1 in which the control sample had 3200 kg ha−1. The pH, electrical conductivity (EC), bulk density (BD) and particle density (PD) decreased in all the combinations other than control. NPK content, percentage of water holding capacity (WHC), pore space (PS) and saturated moisture (SM) content increased. Thus, application of amendments in the proper combination may be a good strategy to reclaim the soil. Top Keywords Farm yard manure, amendments, physical properties, green manure. Top |
