Medical College Pune Abstract Autopsy study of foetuses was carried out to study appearance of ossification centres. Three ossification centres that is calcaneal, sternal and lower end of femur were studied in relation to gestational age. Calcaneal, centre appears at 20–26 weeks, centre at lower end of femur appears at 35–36 weeks. Sternal centres varied as far as age of appearance is concerned and were highly unreliable.
