Abstract

The present investigation was carried out to standardize the stenting method of propagation in plum with the objective to reduce the nursery production duration. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with two factors comprising of five stents/cuttings (Kala Amritsari stents, Satluj Purple stents, Kabuli Green Gauge cuttings, Kala Amritsari cuttings and Satluj Purple cuttings) and four IBA concentrations (Control, 500, 1000 and 1500 ppm). Stents are prepared by grafting of scion i.e., Kala Amritsari (KA) and Satluj Purple (SP) on to the non rooted rootstock of Kabuli Green Gauge (KGG). It was observed that stents of Kala Amritsari and Satluj Purple grafted on Kabuli Green Gauge performed better than their respective cuttings. Satluj Purple do not responded to propagation by cutting, but when grafted on to the Kabuli Green Gauge, it performed unexpectedly well. KGG+KA stents and KGG+SP stents treated with 1000 ppm of IBA for 10 minutes took significantly the maximum plant height, plant thickness, No of leaves, length of primary roots and success %. Therefore, stenting technique could produce the quality plants within the short duration of one year instead of two years taken under conventional method of nursery production in plum.
