Abstract

The present study was carried out at village Khaladi (Purola area) of district Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) during the years 2013–14 and 2014–15. The 7–8 years old trees of pomegranate cv. Kandhari were selected for the study. The trial consisted of three treatments viz., T1: Foliar spray of CaSO4 (3000 ppm), T2: Foliar spray of Borax (50 ppm and T3: Control (No spray). The minimum fruit cracking % was found in treatment foliar spray of CaSO4 3000 ppm while no spray (control) showed the maximum fruit cracking. Fruit yield per tree and fruit yield (q/ha) were observed highest in both the years of investigation with foliar application of CaSO4 3000 ppm. However, the lowest fruit yield was found with control treatment. The maximum benefit cost ratio was obtained with foliar spray of CaSO4 3000 ppm, whereas, minimum benefit cost ratio was found with control during both the years of experiment. It can be concluded that the foliar application of CaSO4 3000 ppm has been found efficient for reducing fruit cracking, and increasing productivity and profitability of pomegranate crop under rainfed condition.
