Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2015 at Experimental Farm School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development, Nagaland University, Medziphema to study the response of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) to potassium and sulphur nutrition grown in foothills of Nagaland. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design consisting of four levels of potassium (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg K ha−1) and three levels of sulphur (0, 20 and 40 kg S ha−1) and replicated thrice. The study revealed that growth attributes were significantly affected by the application of the potassium and sulphur. The increasing levels of potassium significantly increased yield attributes like No. of pods plant−1, protein and oil content of soybean whereas, application of sulphur produced significant effects on nodules plant−1, dry weight of nodules, seed and stover yield and protein and oil content. Significant increase in uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur was noticed with increasing levels of potassium and sulphur. Based on these results, the combined application of 40 kg K and 40 kg S ha−1 for the best yield and quality of soybean in foothills of Nagaland and other regions with similar edaphic conditions can be recommended.
