Abstract

Diallele analysis of ten diverse Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern and Coss) parents suitable for different sowing conditions was carried out to identify superior parents for different traits, high heterotic crosses combination and their relationship in terms of general and specific combining ability (GCA and SCA). Combining ability analysis elucidated the higher magnitude of σ2S and σ2D values coupled with over-dominance for all the characters studied. The results clearly indicated preponderance of non-additive gene effect in governing the traits. PM-25, RB-57 and Maya were good general combiners for days to maturity. Maya exhibited good GCA effects for desirable plant height. For seed yield per plant, PRL2012–13, Divya-55, NRCHB-101 and DRMR-675-39 were found as good general combiners. NRCHB101×Divya-55, NRCHB-101×PRE-2011-15 and NRCHB-101×RMM-09-4 were significantly promising cross combination for the early flowering. Divya-55×RRN-778 expressed the highest SCA effect for seed yield per plant followed by PRE-201115×Maya, PRL-2012-13×Divya-55, NRCHB-101 × RMM-09-4 and DRMR-675-39 × RRN-778. In majority of crosses showing high SCA effects, involved at least one parent with good GCA effect and another with either average or poor GCA effect.
