Online Published on 12 June, 2023. Abstract This study examined the challenges in the training of library and information science students in Kogi State University, Anyigba. The study’s methodology was a descriptive survey. The total population is four hundred and twenty-six (426) which comprised 419 students and 7 lecturers in the Department of Library and Information Science, Kogi State University, Anyigba. Seven (7) instructors from the Department of Library and Information Science were interviewed, and a total of 419 questionnaires were issued to registered students in the department. Of those, 390 copies (93.07%) were returned. Three (3) research questions guided the conduct of the study. The mean scores of the data were the statistical tools employed for this investigation. Major study findings served as the foundation for analysis and debate of the study. The findings found that admission requirements, duration of the programmes, mode of study, variations in LIS programme and accreditation problems in LIS courses were factors that affect students’ choice to study Library and Information Science in Kogi State University, Anyigba. The study revealed that the constraints that hinder the training of Library and Information Science students ranged from lacking information sources and other facilities for teaching and learning, constraints in the use of emerging information technologies to deliver library services and improve teaching and learning, inadequate teaching and learning facilities, poor information environment and among others. The study, among others, recommended that stakeholders should collaborate and network to hold forums to share experiences and benchmark in LIS programmes and LIS institutions should also collaborate on curriculum development, publications, student/staff exchanges, conferences, seminars, and international partnerships.
