Abstract This paper attempts to analyse the research output of Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC), Puducherry during 1996 to 2015. The data used for this study were retrieved from Scopus database. The research output has been analysed by year, authorship pattern, extent of collaboration, national and international collaborations, most prolific authors, most preferred sources, citation profile, highly cited articles and so on. Results of the study reveal that the research output of PEC scholars has grown steadily during the last 5 years of the study period. Most of the contributions were multi-authored (97.34%). The collaborative coefficient was arrived at a value of 0.589 for all the publications. The most preferred source for publication by PEC faculty was International Journal of Applied Engineering Research, and the most productive author of PEC in terms of publications was Dananjayan, P., whereas Vaidyanathan, G. had the highest average citation per publication (CPP) as well as the highest h-index. During the period of study, 4,830 citations were received by 1,504 papers with an average CPP of 3.21 per paper.
