Abstract The present study provides information about the data-mining techniques. The data mining process helps in analysis of data and retrieval of useful and unknown information. There are different techniques that come under the data-mining process like classification, clustering, prediction, association rule mining and web mining. Commercial as well as free software are available for the analysis of data. With the ever ending growth of data in different sectors which may be industry or academia, data-mining techniques have potential applications.
