Abstract Library plays a very crucial role in the development of an organisation like university, institute and research centre. The five laws by Dr. S.R. Ranganathan are the building blocks for setting up and developing a library in an institute level. The present paper discusses how these laws were fulfilled in setting up a library at the newly established Jaypee University (JU), Uttar Pradesh, in 2014. It also addresses the best practices adopted in developing the library. Finally, it sheds light on effective ways to overcome challenges posed by the digital era and advances in information technology.
