Abstract

Modinagar Uttar Pradesh India Beauty is a phenomenon of experiencing pleasure through the perception of balance. Every one admires beauty and its unique balance in nature. The perception of esthetics varies from person to person and is influenced by personal experiences and social environment. From past decades, interest in esthetics among orthodontist, medical professionals and general population has increased dramatically and will continue to rise. In eighteenth century philosopher Alexander Baumgartn coined the term esthetics which is derived from a Greek word aesthetics and connotes sensory perception of beauty and beautiful. Orthodontist plays a vital role in enhancing facial esthetics of an individual. The contours reflect the underlying facial skeleton and affect facial soft tissue. There has been a transition in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning towards the soft tissue paradigm in which the primary goal of treatment is to obtain best possible adaption and proportion of soft tissue of face and mouth and secondary goal is functional dental occlusion. The objective here is to provide a relationship between facial esthetics and orthodontic treatment to enhance the cosmetic appearance by improving the smile of patient.
