Abstract

Traditionally, use of probiotics has been associated with treatment of gastrointestinal problems and their beneficial effects cannot be overlooked in this field. Recently, probiotics have been introduced as a treatment option to promote oral health also. Studies have been carried out reporting the anticariogenic effects of probiotics and also their use in treatment of periodontal disease. This article summarizes the potential benefits of probiotics in promoting oral health.
