Online published on 17 July, 2018. Abstract This review endeavours to cover the basic principles of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The major differences between the traditional narrative review, systematic review and meta-analysis are discussed. Systematic reviews limit the bias associated within the studies and provide clinically relevant evidence. Critical issues that need to be considered while appraising a systematic review or meta-analysis are outlined.
