Oral submucous fibrosis- an insight Dr. More Chandramani, Professor and Head, Dr. Thakkar Krushna, Post Graduate student Department of Oral Medicine, Diagnosis and Radiology, K. M. Shah Dental College and Hospital, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, Piparia, Vadodara, Gujarat (India). Abstract Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is a Chronic, Progressive, Scarring disease, that predominantly affects people of South-East Asian origin where chewing of Arecanut & its commercial preparation is high. Presence of Fibrous bands are the main characteristic feature of OSMF. The malignant transformation rate of OSMF is found to be 7.6%. We have carried out an extensive search in PubMed, Medline for almost all relevant articles and books concerning OSMF. The available data from the literature is mainly composed of the most recent reviews. This Review Article discusses the Epidemiology, Etiology, Clinical Manifestation, Pathology & Management of Oral Submucous Fibrosis in detail.
