Online Published on 19 October, 2023. Abstract Gingival enlargement (GE) is proliferation of the gingiva that interferes with mastication, poses a problem for maintenance of oral hygiene and raises aesthetic concern. A proper diagnosis, histological evaluation and surgical intervention is mandatory for management for GE. The current case report highlights the case of a 41-year old female patient with non-contributory medical or habit history. The patient presented with a generalized gingival enlargement involving the buccal and lingual/ palatal surfaces of the maxillary and mandibular arches causing functional and esthetic concerns to the patient. The medical examination revealed, the patient was anaemic with no other contributory finding. The histopathologic analysis of GE confirmed the inflammatory fibro-epithelial hyperplasia. The treatment included extraction of hopeless tooth, coronoplasty, splinting, internal bevel gingivectomy and prosthetic rehabilitation. The gingival enlargement was treated by internal bevel gingivectomy under local anaesthesia, to preserve the width of keratinized tissue. The postoperative result was uneventful. An interdisciplinary approach is required for esthetic and functional rehabilitation of gingival enlargement cases, to render appropriate treatment most beneficial to the patient. Oral hygiene education, motivation and patient compliance is strategic for the long term predictable prognosis.
