Thus, the experienced jogger meets the demands of running five miles and thoroughly enjoys it. A person given a promotion is delighted even though it means more responsibility and work. Even the most wonderful events of life--love, friendship, family, sex, travel, holiday-add stress because these situations require us to cope and adapt. Stress is wear and tear on the body in response to stressful agents. Ján Selye called such agents as stressors and said they could be physical, physiological, psychological or socio-cultural. And stress is not an anxiety disorder and it is not a normative concept. The oral mucosa is highly reactive to psychological influences, and in some cases oral diseases may be a direct expression of emotions or conflicts, while in other instances, lesions of oral mucosa may be the indirect result of an emotional problem in terms of fundamental psychological theory, the oral tissue have considerable significance. The mouth is directly or symbolically related to the major human instincts, passions and is charged with a high psychological potential.1 Top |
