Online published on 8 December, 2011. Abstract An epidemiological study of prevalence of Malocclusion was conducted on Bangalore Urban and Rural preschool children (3–6 years age). In this study a method for epidemiological registration of malocclusion in deciduous dentition based on a previous study of T.D. Foster and Margaret Hamilton10 with certain modifications is used, which consists of systematic registration of individuals characters of malocclusion, instead of grouping based on Angle's classification. The following findings were observed, 91.6% had canine class I relation, Spacing was seen in 56.5%, Primate spacing was seen in 41.55%, crowding was seen in 12.15%, increased overjet was seen in 7.1%, deep bite was seen in 4%,open bite was seen in 3.3%, edge to edge bite was present in 3.3%, crossbite was seen in 3.45% children. Orofacial habits were seen in 7.5% cases with thumb sucking being the most prevalent. Orthodontic intervention was required in 12.8% of children. These epidemiological studies will help us to plan preventive and interceptive programmes for this population.
