Online published on 16 October, 2013. Abstract Aim: To assess the dentition status and treatment needs amongorphanage children of Vadodara city Gujarat. Materials & Methods: A cross sectional descriptive study was carried out in the month of June-July 2012 to assess the dentition status and treatment needs among Orphanage Children of Vadodara City Gujarat. A total of 337; orphan children of Vadodara City, Gujarat were included. Assessment of dental caries and treatment needs was done in accordance with the criteria as laid down by WHO in oral health assessment survey methodology, 1997. Data was analyzed by SPSS trial version 14.Descriptive statistics were applied. Results: Prevalence of dental caries in deciduous teeth (dmft) was 59.5% and in permanent teeth (DMFT) was 48.6%. In the present study comparatively higher prevalence of dental caries was observed in primary teeth. Majority of the subjects had untreated decayed component, indicating higher percentage of unmet treatment needs. Predominant treatment need was one surface filling in primary as well as in permanent teeth. Conclusion: The prevalence of dental caries among orphanage in Vadodara city, Gujarat is very high. Untreated caries indicates that preventive and restorative treatment needs were high. Top Key Words Dental caries, Treatment needs, Orphanage children. Top |
