Online published on 16 February, 2016. Abstract There are various developmental disturbances involving the mandible. These may cause anomalies in the size and shape of the condyle. Hyperplasia, hypoplasia, agenesis and formation of bifid condyle are a few cases which may be evident on radiographic examination of the joint. Condylar hypoplasia is the underdevelopment or defective formation of the condyle, which can be congenital or acquired. Congenital hypoplasia is present at birth, while acquired condylar hypoplasia occurs from an event that interferes with its normal development. This event can be trauma, infection, radiation, endocrine disorder, or systemic arthropathy.. A rare case of unilateral condylar hypoplasia encountered in our clinic is reported here.
