Online Published on 28 July, 2023. Abstract Introduction Medico-legal cases are an important part of medical practice. Section 174 and 176 code of criminal procedure mention the concept of medico-legal autopsy during the investigation of a sudden suspicious unwanted death. Materials and Methods The present study is a record based study of post mortem done at Dr. YSPGMC Nahan from 1st January to 31st December 2021 consisting of 88 cases. The study was initiated to know the pattern of postmortem cases with regards to various criteria like age,sex, cause and manner of death. Prior permission was sought from institutional authorities for conducting the study. Results Out of 88 cases, maximum number of postmortem 11.4%(n=10) were conducted in April and June 10% (n= 7 cases). Males cases predominated over female cases which were 85%(n=75). The maximum number of cases 87%(n=74) were in age group 18-60 years. Out of total number of post mortem done, hanging contributed towards maximum number of cases in age group 21-40 years and among the gender distribution towards cause of death , road traffic accidents and hanging contributed equally. Conclusion In the study conducted, the most common cause of death is road traffic accident and hanging which are highly preventable. Top Keywords Profile, Postmortem, Medical College. Top |
