Online Published on 28 July, 2023. Abstract Introduction Alcohol consumption not only takes us away from reality, but it also undermines the ethics and culture of our society. Illicit liquor is the most harmful as it’s produced without following any protocols, increasing the chances of methanol contamination, and since there are no standards, the ethanol amount fluctuates greatly. Materials and Methods In this study, we gathered 15 samples of illegal liquor from different parts of Himachal Pradesh and evaluated them using ATR-FTIR. Results We were able to identify variances in ethanol level and a difference in the correlation when comparing licit and illicit liquor. And, due to an existing library installed in ATR-FTIR, we were able to identify the contents and tentative concentration. Conclusions This technique can be improved further because it is extremely fast and, most importantly, non-destructive, so that more precise results can be discovered.
