Abstract Introduction Estimation of age in individuals has received considerable attention in forensic science, which is a widely used method for individual identification. Secondary dentin apposition results in changes in size of pulp canal which is one of best morphometric parameter for estimating age by X-rays. Aim The goal of the study is to assess the reliability of Cameriere’s method in adult ethnic population of Himachal Pradesh and to derive Himachal Pradesh population specific formula for age estimation. Materials and Method A retrospective study was performed on archived OPG’s in H.P Government Dental College, Shimla database which included 200 OPG’s distributed in each age group of males and females respectively. (21-30years, 31-40years, 41-50 years and 51-60 years). For Cameriere’s method tooth area and pulp chamber area are calculated for left mandibular central and lateral incisors, canines, premolars and 1st molar for age estimation. Results The estimated age calculated from this was compared with the patient’s chronological age and its reliability was checked on Himachal Population. Statistical analysis is performed in order to obtain multiple regression formulae for dental age calculation, with chronological age as dependent variable, and mandibular left central incisor, lateral incisor, canine, first premolar, second premolar and first molar as independent variables individually. The formula thus obtained was validated on 50 individuals of age group 21-60 years.
