Abstract

Oyster mushroom cultivation can play an indispensible role in managing and recycling of organic wastes like paddy straw. In the present investigation, the qualitative analysis of bioactive compounds like alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, proteins, saponins, steroids, tannin and terpenoids from two edible Pleurotus mushroom species namely Pleurotus florida and P. eous was conducted when cultivated on three different paddy straws from varieties ADT36, AST18 and CO43 as substrates. Maximum quantity of bioactive compounds was observed in P. florida and P. eous when cultivated on ADT36 than other substrates. The amino acid contents of P. florida and P. eous were comparatively analysed with three paddy straw substrates. P. florida had produced quantitatively significant content of amino acids in ADT36 substrate than other substrates. The present study reported that paddy straw from ADT36 variety is a potential substrate for cultivation of P. florida and P. eous with high value nutrients and pharmaceutically valuable substances.
