Abstract

A sow was infested with sarcoptic mange at Pig Breeding Unit. Skin scraping from of the sow revealed eggs and adults of Sarcoptes spp. mites. The sow was treated with ivermectin at 200 μg/kg body weight. Subsequent microscopic examination of skin scrapings revealed gradual reduction in number of mites and eggs count from day 0 to day 14. Eggs of the mites could not be detected on 4th day and the adult mites were not detected on 8th day post treatment. Ivermectin was found to be effective against the sarcoptic mange in pig.
