They not only degrade the slopes but also cause the loss of properties worth billions of rupees annually and sometimes lead to the loss of precious human lives. Landslides are a common phenomenon in the mountainous landscape of Himachal Pradesh. The sliding of debris down to the road is a common sight for the people of the state. The present study is focused on Bharmaur tehsil of Chamba district where landslides are a recurring phenomenon. This area can be called one of the worst landslidehit areas of the state. The present study aims to visualize the spatial distribution of landslides along the roads in the area and analyze various preventive measures employed. The findings of the study reveal that the physical setting of the area and the ever-increasing anthropogenic activities, particularly road construction, make the slope vulnerable to sliding activities of various types and magnitudes. Landslides are an integral part of hilly landscapes and cannot be completely avoided. However, the sliding of slopes can be prevented to some extent by considering suitable measures.
