Abstract

In today’s time, India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with an increasing population of around 1.4 billion people. The population growth has its challenges, and the most important setback is traffic congestion. Urbanization is increasing for better opportunities, and for this reason, the number of vehicles on the road is also increasing, which is leading to traffic congestion. Traffic congestion is the long hours of waiting in traffic. It leads to various negative effects like wasting time, which is non-productive, delays that may result in the late arrival of employment, meetings, or any other important work, wastes fuel which also increases air pollution, wear and tear of the vehicles because of the regular brake. Nearly 5,000 deaths per year in Delhi can be attributed to traffic congestion (Kacker, Gupat, Ali 2023). The paper aims to study the impact of traffic congestion on health (physical & psychological). The sample was purposively selected from the working population of Udaipur city. A Google form was prepared for the survey, and a snowball technique was used. A factorial design of 2 x 2 was made. The independent variable was gender (male and female), and the other group was the governing of the vehicle which is divided into subgroups of driver and passenger. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics and analysis of variance through SPSS software. As a result, it was found that there is a significant effect of traffic congestion on the physical and psychological health of city inhabitants.
