Abstract In the present age of information explosion with technological advancement, information literacy enables library users to use modern sources of information to apply and create knowledge. Information literacy in broader capacity involves the intricate issues of information storage and retrieval. It plays a crucial role in addressing the key issues of information literacy and how users can be better oriented and apprised to use information easily and conveniently. The information literacy improves the ability to locate, access, evaluate, and synthesize new information and to channelize it effectively and efficiently among user community. Moreover, information literacy provides a platform to become a lifelong learner. The various information literacy elements must be inculcated in faculties including librarian, students and other users. This encourages them to acquire various skills such as critical thinking, team building, problem solving, communication etc. Every person involved in learning process has the responsibility in promoting the information literacy in their community, but librarian has the critical role to play along with faculties involved in teaching.
