Indological Libraries in Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

The present study is based on 20 Indological Libraries of Madhya Pradesh established between 1854 to 2002. It includes scope, objective, importance, sources of data, and historical development of Indological libraries. Major findings are: during the period 1980–1989 a total of 7 (35%) institutions/libraries were established and this decade can be recognized as a golden period for establishing Indological institutions/libraries. In Madhya Pradesh. Only (65%) libraries have librarian, 9 (45%) Indological libraries have special manuscripts, 12 libraries have classified their collection out of them 6 (50%) libraries use Dewey Decimal Classification and 3 (25%) use Colon Classification, 7 (35%) libraries have computer, 3 (l5%) libraries are connected with networks and financial scarcity is a major hurdle in the development of indological libraries.
