Abstract

This paper is an attempt to study public library awareness in the society. The significance of the public library, especially in mass literacy and in informing people regarding the nation and government is beyond dispute. Nevertheless, what if there exists the least communication between society and the library? While government (both central and state) is so committed about accomplishing goals of public welfare, why still basic illiteracy clings to village people? Is there a major breach between govt. institutions and their public reach? Most importantly, how much the local student fraternity are aware of or access public library? To investigate few such issues, A field research was conducted on few villages at the vicinity of Varanasi. Following the survey method, each data have been sampled and evaluated for the optimal utilization to diagnose the problems and to suggest some efficient methods to overcome those obstacles for constructing a better society, a better nation.
