Abstract The Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats/Cas9 genome editing technology gave remarkable insight to resolve the challenges encountered in conventional plant breeding. It has emerged as a promising editing tool, trailing behind other tools like zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs) and transcriptional activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs). This system has been propitiously implemented in diverse crops like rice, wheat, maize, tomato, potato, tobacco, cotton, soybean, arabidopsis, etc. for various genome editing approaches. The purpose of this review is to rationalize recent perception and dimensions of CRISPR/Cas9 for the improvement of crops to gain resiliency by tackling biotic and abiotic stresses and modulating appearance, palatability, and nutritional components. Additionally, the future perspective is also discussed to combat the recent challenges in agriculture. Top Keywords CRISPR, Cas9, Gene-editing, Biotic stress, Abiotic stress, Crop improvement. Top |
