Abstract

The confessional Anglo-Indian poet, Kamala Surrayya, formerly known as Kamala Das (also known as Kamala Madhavikutty wrote under the pen name Madhavikutty). Major Indian English poet and litterateur and also a leading Malayalam author from Kerala, popular for her short stories, explicit autobiography (Kamala DasMy Story (novel), published in English, Harper Collins publication 1977) and fiery poems that are highly confessional, candid and open. Her openness and honesty about female sexuality, her life and love affairs made her a controversial poet but at the same time brought her great respect as one of the very best women poets of twentieth century.
