Abstract Bahubali, the movie which has created a sensation because of its box office collection, dialogues and the mystery behind ‘Why Kattappa killed Bahubali?’ (‘Kattappa ne Bahubali ko kyun mara?’), has all the elements of a well-crafted story. Indeed, not a single scene in the movie has anything new to offer in terms of story line, yet the novel treatment given to all the age-old circumstances by the director and writer, not to underestimate the actors and the technical department, has made it a success. Indeed, there are places where circumstances are replicas of older epics but not the action in the given situation. Almost every scene of the movie is a testimonial to Aristotle's Poetics and mimesis of some other character or story from mythology and fiction. The presence of all the features of an epic in the movie was indeed a guarantee of success. This knowledge must have given the courage and determination to the team to take up this mammoth project. The movie is a milestone, once again proving the superiority of classics over all the others. Top Keywords Anagnorisis, Catharsis, Epic, Hamartia, Mimesis, Peripeteia, Poetics. Top |
