It does not matter what society one is from, woman will always be taken as man's trophy. Her worth subsists in being someone's wife or daughter or sister or mother. The moment she behaves as an individual seeking her own space in marriage and life, she becomes a threat to the institution of marriage as well as to the society. The main objective of this article is to highlight the main issues concerning woman's position in marriage raised in the novels of the renowned American novelist of Indian origin, Bharati Mukherjee. The significance of the proposed study is that it has the potential to determine what the newly emancipated women should do to make their married lives blissful, which will ultimately help in forming a tolerant universal society. Through the aid of Mukherjee's novels, the review will present how accurately a writer interprets the position of woman in marriage and how good her suggestions could be to establish woman's position as a male-counterpart, both in society and in the institution of marriage.
