Abstract

Death is inevitable. Different cultures have different notion regarding death and rituals related to it. Indians take death as a festival and there are certain rituals related to it. The movies Pagglait and Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi depict satires on the 13 days rituals of death. It is reflected that how these pious final rites are modified and turned into forced obligations rather than sacred customs, in the modern world. They also comment on the position of women, especially widows, in society. Besides, the movies also focus on the traditions and rituals regarding death which were once considered sacred and holy have been reduced to nothing more than flexible customs prone to changes according to people's convenience.
