Abstract

“Each individual is an artist”, a saying may be as old as the trade in one form or another, a majority of people seem to not realise the plethora of potential in art as a profession and a journey. Art does not necessarily need a formal education to grow into a profession if one has the will to pursue it. The paper focuses on art as a healing potential and how visual art can a medium to heal emotional injuries, increase understanding of oneself and others, develop a capacity for self-reflection, reduce symptoms and alter behaviours and thinking patterns. The paper is based upon a study presented as a speaker during ‘The Potentials of Art’ Webinar held by and at Sophia Girls College, Ajmer, which concentrates upon the case study of the role of visual art in the context of socio-cultural activities.
