Abstract Captivity is a human experience in any situation where an individual surrenders power, autonomy, and independence to the control of another person or entity. This research delves into Emma Donoghue’s “Room,” a true story based on the case of Elizabeth Fritzl and her five-year-old son Felix. Narrated from a five-year-old’s perspective, the novel explores the struggles faced by Jack and his Ma trapped in a small room for seven years, aiming to analyze the contrasting traumatic experiences arising from changing spaces.
