Abstract Nyctanthes arbor-tristis offers myriad ecosystem services to human kind including phyto-medicines, nutritional products, aesthetic value and cultural value. It has immense therapeutic potential due to the presence of a wide array of bioactive compounds endowed with therapeutic benefits making the plant indispensable for pharmacological and nutraceutical purpose. It has ethno-botanical uses in culinary delicacies and in treating various diseases. The plant has great economic importance as the flowers of the plant are used in making perfumes, oils and dyes. This ornamental plant is not only valued for its beauty that enhances the aesthetics of natural environment, but also important for agriculture for its allelopathic and nematicidal effects. This review is an endeavor to summarize research findings highlighting Nyctanthes arbor-tristis as a plant of great significance in providing excellent ecosystem services to the mankind. This review would lead to exploration of provisioning services of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis that bring direct benefits to the humans, establishing it as a valuable resource for sustainable use of biodiversity.
