Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2020–21 and 2021–22 at ICAR- CPRI-RS, Gwalior (M.P.) entitled “response of organic mulching and nutrient management practices on quality parameters of rice (Oryza sativa L.) and potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) in rice - potato sequence”. The treatments combination consists of two factor such as mulch and nutrient management practices. The treatment were: Factor A: Mulch (M1: No mulch; M2: Paddy straw mulch @ 5 t/ha) and Factor B: Nutrient management practices {F1- 100% RDF (NPK), F2- Crop residue @ 25 t/ha+ Azotobacter @ 1.25 l/ha + PSB @ 1.25 l/ha + Jeevamrut @ 500 l/ha, F3-FYM @ 25 t/ha + Jeevamrut @ 500 l/ha and F4- Control}. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The results revealed that the application of paddy straw mulch not not influence significant variation on quality parameters of rice viz., protein and starch content and quality parameters of potato viz., true potato density, tuber dry matter content, water content, starch content and protein content (expect 2021–22) during both the years of experiment (2020–21 and 2021–22). Application of FYM @ 25 t/ha + Jeevamrut @ 500 l/ha in rice recorded significantly maximum protein content (9.97 and 10.43%) over other treatments during 2020–21 and 2021–22, respectively. True density of tuber was not varied significantly under different treatments. Highest dry matter content (20.05 and 20.25%) as well as lowest water content (79.95 and 79.75%) in tuber were recorded under FYM @ 25 t/ha + Jeevamrut @ 500 l/ha which was significantly superior than other treatments during 2020–21 and 2021–22. Application of Crop residue @ 25 t/ha+ Azotobacter @ 1.25 l/ha + PSB @ 1.25 l/ha + Jeevamrut @ 500 l/ha in potato crop recorded significantly maximum protein content (8.78 and 9.15%) over control treatment. But, application of 100% RDF (NPK) recorded significantly maximum starch content (13.21 and 13.15%) which was statistically at par with FYM @ 25 t/ha + Jeevamrut @ 500 l/ha during 2020–21 and 2021. Hence, quality of rice grain and potato tuber were qualitatively superior compared to production under inorganic system.
