Abstract Public Administration has served as an indispensable tool for implementing legislative decisions in accordance with constitutional mandates across various countries. Contemporary theoretical developments in public administration are rooted in the structural-functional approaches analyzed by scholars and practitioners in this field of inquiry. Consequently, the emergence of New Public Management (NPM) and New Public Governance (NPG) reflects the adoption of a citizen-centric governance perspective by both public and private administrations, aimed at celebrating effective, efficient, and economical service delivery objectives. This paper provides an overview of the concepts of New Public Management and the post-NPM dimensions of public governance. It highlights the conceptual interpretation and operational value of these concepts within the realm of Public Administration, all in the context of governance. Theoretical and operational efforts in the realm of Indian Public Administration are incorporated to enhance understanding of the relationship between theory and practice in India. The primary objective of this paper is to analyze the endeavors of the Indian Government concerning operational issues related to New Public Governance and post-NPM reforms in India. To achieve this goal, archival, content analysis, and analytical review methodologies are employed to evaluate the performance of the governance management system.
