Use of Electronic Resources by Pharmacy Students of GITAM Institute of Pharmacy, GITAM University, Andhra Pradesh, India

Abstract

The electronic resources available in a library play a prominent role in facing access to required information to the user in an easy and expeditious manner. The electronic resources like e-books, e-journal, online databases and the internet are slowly replacing the importance and usage of print media. There is a tremendous growth in the number and variety of information resources available on the internet, which becomes an important source for scholarly scientific literature and also more number of information resources as well as the results of scientific and pharmaceutical research are now available on web. This paper describes the use of electronic resources by the students of Institute of Pharmacy at Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management University, Andhra Pradesh, India. A well-structured questionnaire was administered to 200 students to collect the primary data from respondents. A total number of 175 filled-in questionnaires were received showing overall response rate of counterproductive to evaluate students as one group. Majority of pharmacy students (54.85%) used electronic resources for study and research, 20.57% for career development, 17.14% for improving knowledge and 7.42% using electronic resources for finding quick information. Majority of the students (62.85%) use Google as the search engine for using electronic resources. Most of the students (42.28%) use abstractng journals, and majority of the students (33.14%) prefer using Medline as database
