Abstract

The main aim of this article is to present an overview of the information literacy in higher education. Information literacy has been a significant issue in the library community from many years. It is now being recognised as an important issue by the higher education community. The article presents a theoretical framework of the information literacy agenda along with its important elements specifically for tertiary educators and administrators. The framework examines three areas of primary concern, namely, the possible outcomes of information literacy education; the nature of information literacy education; and the potential role of stakeholders in helping staff and students to be information literate.
