Abstract The purpose of this study is to compare and evaluate the websites of universities in North India using Alexa Internet website traffic analytics in the following years 2017 and 2020. A total of 15 universities in North India which have web presence are included in the study. The results of the analysis gives interesting insights about the websites. Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University got highest traffic rank in 2017 (39,480) while in the year 2020, Banaras Hindu University received first rank with highest traffic rank (41,113). The highest percent of Indian visitors were in Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (90.9%) in 2017 and in the year 2020, more than half of the 15 universities websites i.e. 6 have 100% Indian visitors. Aligarh Muslim University has received maximum percentage of foreign visitors in 2017(8.4%) as well as in 2020(4.8%) though with decreased percentage. In the year 2017, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University ranked first with lowest bounce rate (20.1%) with maximum page views (6.08) and highest estimated daily time (9:53) spent by users. While in the year 2020 Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith acquired first rank with (25.4%) bounce rate and Bundelkhand University has highest number of page views i.e. 3.7. Aligarh Muslim University ranked first with maximum average time spent, Prof. Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University attributed to maximum (85%) search traffic. Banaras Hindu University topped the ranked list in both the years 2017(2,078) and in 2020(1,388) total number of links and being the most popular website among the users. The comparative study will provide important insights about the website usage to the universities in North India during the passage of time which will help them to strengthen their website.
