Abstract

Journals form an integral part of a library’s collection. The engineering college library spends a considerable amount on procuring and subscribing to a variety of print and electronic journals. Library staff must ensure that users heavily utilize the journals. The present study investigates the use of print and electronic journals by postgraduate students of an engineering college in the city of Nasik. The study aims to find out the awareness, frequency of use, reasons for using journals, problems faced while using them, and the satisfaction level of the users. A structured questionnaire was designed on Google Forms and distributed through email or WhatsApp. The findings reveal that students use both print and electronic journals. However, the number of students using only print journals is quite low. The majority of students were made aware of the journal collection by their faculty members. The journals are used for a variety of purposes such as studying, completing assignments, and updating knowledge in the field. Most of the respondents identified "easy to use" and "timeliness" as the most appealing features of print journals. The most appealing features of electronic journals are "easily searchable" and "speed". It was concluded that the current and back issues of print journals should be properly displayed, and hands-on training should be provided to enhance the use of electronic journals.
