Abstract The article delves into the realm of tools designed for data collection, analysis, collaboration, writing, and project management, elucidating their multifaceted functionalities that cater to researchers at various stages of their work. It discusses the significance of reference management and citation tools, collaboration platforms, writing and editing tools, and identity systems as integral components within the technol ogical toolkit that empowers researchers. The focus is to illuminate how these tools contribute to enhancing efficiency and accuracy, foster collaboration, and optimize tasks in the continuously evolving landscape of research. The study, conducted within the framework of social science researchers at the University of Kerala, utilizes a survey methodology to evaluate awareness levels, usage patterns, difficulties and challenges faced, and suggestions about research support tools. The findings reveal varied awareness levels among researchers regarding literature search platforms, reference management tools, language editing tools, academic networks, and plagiarism detection software. Google Scholar, Zotero, Grammarly, and Urkund emerged as prominent tools. The study suggests tailored strategies for promoting specific tools based on unique strengths, emphasizing the role of librarians in demystifying complex tools and fostering information literacy. Ultimately, the article contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic landscape of research-supporting tools and their impact on scholarly endeavors.
