Paradigm Shift in Library Services: A Transition from Conventional to Modern Librarianship

Abstract

With the explosion of information technology in general and specially because of the popularity of internet, librarians are facing new challenges to look for new ways in order to meet the user's new demands and new expectations. The need to provide information to various users has encouraged the creation of many innovative services associated with new technology along with the traditional. As the transmission of information mechanisms are always changing the Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals have to rethink and redesign their methods for information dissemination which depends upon the category of the library, mission of the library and library users and so many other factors. The advent of computers and more particularly the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have influenced each and every facet of libraries and information center. The main objective of the paper is to emphasize the services provided by the libraries with the aid of technologies.
